THE’Associazione Sagra San Giuseppe confirms that the 64th edition of the Palio dei Somari cannot be held, as per tradition, next March 2021.

The demonstration, at least for now, it is forced to yield to the limits imposed by the pandemic, thus renouncing the usual program of initiatives that from 1966 animates the beginning of spring in Valdichiana. The current health conditions do not allow the realization of the calendar of events, among which the famous Taverns are mentioned, which culminates with the donkey ride between the eight Contrade Torritesi in honor of San Giuseppe, the Sunday after 19 March.

The appointment, among the most felt by the community of Torrita and every year a destination for visitors and tourists, it is postponed until it will be possible to recover the social character that has always characterized the event.

«To propose a suggestion of the Palio dei Somari, albeit in some alternative form, However, it would not have the same meaning for those who know and experience the world of Contrade and the Palio all year round - Yuri Cardini announces, President of the Sagra San Giuseppe Association. «If the epidemiological situation allows it, however, it is not excluded to postpone the Palio dei Somari for a few months, maybe after the summer.

On the part of the whole Association there is in fact the hope that by the end of 2021 Torrita manages to have her Palio again, and therefore there will also be the utmost commitment so that the next edition can take place as soon as possible ".

Last year Covid-19 forced the Sagra San Giuseppe Association to suspend the event a few days after its start date.
